3 x tips for better web forms

Forcing visitors to fill in a form to "register" before they can get to the good stuff, is standard online practice. The thinking is sound. After all, we only want "good" prospects to access our information. However, a worldwide declining rate in form submissions means that perhaps we need
to take another look at this practice. Many visitors confronted with a form will simply click the back button and go on to the next site. Here are 3 strategies you could test.

Reward your visitors in advance
> 100% increase in submissions

A study shows a 100% increase in form submissions when visitors were able to see what they were getting first. The form came immediately after the good content. "Here you are, you're welcome, but before you go, tell us a bit about yourself". Even though they were under no obligation to fill in the form, visitors submitted at double the rate
of those seeing the register-first form.

It makes NeuroMarketing sense and reminds me of the wise words of my marketing mentor; "If you want people to view you
as an expert, give away free advice".

While I was researching this I came across
2 more interesting research results.

> 77% increase
Request a quote VS Request pricing.
Simply changing the button to Request
Pricing instead of Request a Quote
increased submissions by 77%.

> 19% decrease
A form with a "privacy protected" notification decreased submissions by 19%. Raising awareness of the risk drew attention away from the form. # OpSummit Sophos/MECLABS
